Is your schedule as full as Jesus’s was?

LUKE 4:42

‘At daybreak Jesus went away to a solitary place. The people were looking for him and when they came to where he was, they tried to keep him from leaving them’

He became like us and endured all the things we endure

It’s Monday morning and I’m sure we’re all bracing ourselves for what awaits us at the office or wherever we work. The unopened emails from Friday, the conversations we should have had but were too exhausted to have.

By this afternoon, we may already feel like we’ve done a weeks work. Like Jesus, we may feel like going to a quiet place away from the crowds. But we can’t because the emails and the meeting invites follow us and we can’t escape it. How do we deal with that?

We can try to be like Jesus because He had compassion for the crowds. His heart softened and He knew they needed him more than He needed rest. He was the Son of God and was filled with the power of the Holy Spirit. In fact, Jesus says in Luke 43 – ‘I must proclaim the good news of the Kingdom of God to other towns also, because that is why I was sent’.

Therefore, I think it’s okay for us to pray that God fills us with the power of The Holy Spirit. To pray that He will give us energy, understanding and patience, to be more like Jesus. Give it a try. It’s a simple prayer. It’s not about becoming superhuman but somehow I find myself being able to deal with the ‘one meeting too many’ when I do pray. I once thought that God gives us just as much as we need to deal with all that we have to face but I believe he actually gives us more so we have the energy to do more if we’re doing work to glorify him.

There is, of course, another way to re-energize that works too. Close your eyes and have a nap! That’s also worth praying for,

Have a great ‘Holy Spirit filled’ day!

Heavenly Father, we want to be able to talk to you about all the things we need help with, even something as simple as tiredness. Fill us with Your Holy Spirit today like an ever overflowing cup. Amen!
