If you have a bible handy or if you access to scripture on your phone please read the scripture from Luke.
It’s a familiar story. The Good Samaritan. At the end of the passage Jesus asks one of the experts in the law which of the men was the one that did the good deed. He replies correctly and Jesus said, ‘Go and do likewise’.
We may not come across a man that has been beaten on the street but it’s a parable that Jesus described. There is too much suffering and injustice in this world. It almost sounds a cliche to say it but I’ll say it again. There is too much suffering injustice in this world. As Christians we have to break out of our comfort zone and help because, if we don’t, who will?
The church has a free pass to help. There’s many passages in the Bible that gives us the right and responsibility. So, in our minds, lets take a detour on our way to work today and think about how we can help. Or if we already are, how much more can we help? What or who do we have compassion or a soft heart for? Starving children? The homeless? Victims of rape or child trafficking? People who have never heard about Jesus? The elderly? The mentally ill?
Abused children? Recovering alcoholics or drug addicts? The Bible is full of people like this that Jesus showed love and compassion for. In Jesus’s words to us (not my words). ‘GO AND DO LIKEWISE’ – Amen!
Pray with me:
Heavenly Father, direct out thoughts to those that are suffering or putting up with injustice. Help us find ways to help. To show compassion and love like Jesus did – Amen!
