It’s been a while since I’ve read a piece of scripture that prompted me to post something. But, in truth, there’s not much more to say about the words from James. He didn’t mess with his words but he has a point. All he’s really saying is when we do make plans then let’s make sure that they are done in a way that glorifies God and that he is our guide. And then if ‘our prayer’ doesn’t happen then maybe it’s not just not meant to be. Our lives are already laid out before us. If we look to God He will put us where he wants us to be even if it sometimes seems like the wrong place!
James 4:13-17
Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go into this or that town and spend a year there and do business and make a profit.” You do not know about tomorrow. What is your life like? For you are a puff of smoke that appears for a short time and then vanishes. You ought to say instead, “If the Lord is willing, then we will live and do this or that.” But as it is, you boast about your arrogant plans. All such boasting is evil. So whoever knows what is good to do and does not do it is guilty of sin.
