Do nothing.

Romans 10:17

So faith comes through hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ

Ever tried doing nothing? I think I’m getting good at it. I don’t mean literally doing nothing. I mean just taking some time out to do nothing of any particular importance. I have a 3 hour train journey twice a week back and forth from Boston. It’s one of the most picturesque train journeys I have been on so I can spend at least an hour of that journey staring out of the window doing nothing except looking and thinking. I recently did the journey from my home in CT into Grand Central which I did for 6 years. I was amazed how much of it I didn’t recognize. But that’s because I’d never really looked out of the window. If we can take the time to take in our surroundings or not get caught up in the ‘next thing’ then that’s a great opportunity to spend time with God. Otherwise, we can’t hear him speak to us. Many people gasp when I tell them I have a 3 hour journey on a train twice a week but I know it is a gift and a blessing. But only if I look at it the right way. It is very easy to think of it as a hassle and a burden.  I am on the Boston train now so and it’s only taken me 15 minutes to write this. Back to doing nothing!

Pray with me

Heavenly Father, help us to find time with you. Teach us to pause so we can hear from you. Tell us where you want us to go and what you want us to do – Amen!
